For 2017 the most frequently stolen vehicles are Ford F250 and F350 trucks. For residents of Ontario, Chevrolet dominated the list, including older model Tahoes and Silverados. Its believed that thieves are going after older model trucks because they have less sophisticated security measures, although there is emerging concerns over new technology known as rely attacks that’s leading to more recent model cars being stolen. Rely attacks are done by thieves using a device to remotely detect the frequency codes used to unlock and start cars. Thieves can then reproduce these frequency codes to unlock your car. To prevent the relay attack, vehicle owners should consider keeping their fob in what’s known as a Faraday sleeve or pouch, which blocks the radio signals.
